Steam.- Western Pacific's Feather River Canyon route is one of the most famous, scenic, and highly-
engineered railroad lines in all of North America. The Western Pacific was a late comer to
America's railroad scene – WP was not incorporated to build its main line from Salt Lake City
to the San Francisco Bay Area until 1903, and its final spike was not driven until 1909. As a
result, the Western Pacific was constructed to exceptional engineering standards that
featured numerous high trestles, bridges, and tunnels, and a routing that topped the rugged
Sierra Nevada Mountains with an eastbound ruling grade of 1 percent.
Train Simulator's Feather River Canyon route recreates the dramatic Western Pacific main line
from Oroville to Quincy Junction, California, as it existed in the late 1960s and early 1970s
and the route also includes a segment of the Inside Gateway (Western Pacific's important
connection with the Great Northern and later Burlington Northern) from Keddie to Crescent
Mills, as well as the trackage of the lumber-hauling Quincy Railroad short line.
The route brings to life the remarkable locations and features of the Feather River Canyon,
including famous Keddie Wye and Spanish Creek trestle, bustling Oroville yard and
roundhouse, the iconic rail and road bridges of Pulga, and the nearly countless tunnels, such
as the 'Honeymoon Tunnels' near Belden, that Western Pacific's visionary builders used to
form the WP into a railroad engineering marvel.
Included with the Feather River route are General Electric U30B and EMD F7 diesels in
Western Pacific's flashy orange and silvery livery and a selection of period-authentic freight
rolling stock including a Western Pacific bay-window caboose.

-Western Pacific GP20 High Nose

Steam.- The Electro-Motive GP20 was designed to satisfy the railroads' 1960s demands for ever-more
horsepower. In a production run lasting from November 1959 to April 1962, the EMD GP20
came to symbolize both the beginnings of the 'second generation' of North American
dieselization and the 'horsepower race' of the early 1960s.
The GP20 was the first of EMD's long line of successful 'Geeps' to be turbocharged, providing
the locomotive with 2,000 horsepower. A total of 260 GP20s were constructed for seven U. S.
railroads – and the first buyer of the landmark locomotive was the Western Pacific.
Western Pacific's GP20s were built with high noses (a design that had been the norm in the
1950s but would soon be replaced by a short front hood offering enhanced visibility). The
units were equipped with dual controls for ease of bi-directional use, weighed 257,000
pounds, and were dressed in Western Pacific's attractive and iconic 'Zephyr' silver and orange
livery.
WP utilized its GP20s system-wide use, frequently calling upon the versatile diesels to tote
heavy or priority tonnage through the rugged Feather River Canyon. Most of Western Pacific's
GP20s remained in service until WP was merged into Union Pacific in 1982, and in 1985
Union Pacific donated Western Pacific 2001 – the first GP20 built – to the Feather River Rail
Society and the diesel is today preserved at the Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola,
California.
Developed by Reppo, the Western Pacific GP20 for Train Simulator features a range of
advanced operating features, including authentic start-up procedures and highly realistic
operating controls, and a detailed cab interior with dual, bi-directional engineer control
stands.

-Western Pacific GP35

Steam.- The Electro-Motive 2,500-horsepower GP35 was a railroading success story, with more than
1,300 of the locomotives sold to 40 original railroad buyers during its 1963-1966 production
run. When the GP35 debuted, it represented the latest in Electro-Motive's extraordinarily
successful line of four-axle (B-B) 'GP' ('general purpose') diesel road-switchers.
The list of GP35 customers read much like a railroading 'who's who' of the time, and among
the railroads which purchased the landmark diesel was the Western Pacific, which between 1963
and 1965 acquired 22 of the versatile freight-service diesels. Western Pacific's GP35s
were originally dressed in WP's eye-catching 'Zephyr' silver and orange livery. Following the
discontinuance of the California Zephyr in 1970, the Western Pacific adopted a new green
color scheme. In 1980, most of the WP GP35s were rebuilt by Morrison Knudsen and soon
thereafter joined the Union Pacific roster when WP was merged into UP.
Created by DTM, the Train Simulator Western Pacific GP35 is an authentic re-creation of this
landmark locomotive and includes the WP GP35 in its original stylish silver and orange livery
and in the WP's 1970/80s green livery, making the locomotive suited to service across several
decades on the WP's Feather River Canyon route. The GP35 features highly authentic controls
and operating features, as well as details specific to the WP locomotives. The Western Pacific
GP35 add-on pack also includes WP 50-foot boxcars and three-bay covered hoppers and four
career scenarios for the Train Simulator Feather River Canyon route.
