Sonic: Lost World условно можно разбить на две разные игры. Первая — классическая двухмерная, когда герой бегает по красочным локациям, берет дерзкий разгон, в конце концов расшибается о какого-нибудь противника и теряет все кольца. Вторая подразумевает больше неприятного: еж бежит уже в полностью трехмерном мире, с видом от третьего лица, где все происходящее напоминает пересказ Sonic Dash для мобильных платформ (или любую другую игру в духе Temple Run) — с поправкой на то, что здесь все-таки разрешают остановиться и обойти какое-нибудь злосчастное препятствие стороной.
