Тем не менее, основным нововведением, является возможность завести питомцев: кошек, собак, попугаев, рыбок или рептилий. Основная тема дополнения — питомцы, которая позже появилась в «The Sims 2: Питомцы», «The Sims 3: Питомцы» и «The Sims 4: Кошки и собаки».
Игра поступила в продажу 23 сентября 2002 году. В России дополнение было издано компанией «1С-СофтКлаб» на английском языке, но с русской документацией.
