Introduced in 1964, the Class 421 4CIG (4-car Corridor Brighton stock) ran as a 4-car train comprising a driving trailer, motor coach, unpowered trailer coach and finally a driving trailer. It is a classic example of the 'slam door' EMUs which were once such a familiar sight across the rail networks of southern England. Extensive 3rd-rail electrification of the Southern Region led to the widespread adoption of these 90mph EMUs, and the 4CIG (British Rail Class 421) was initially introduced on the London-Brighton Line where its multiple doors enabled rapid turnaround of passengers at the many regular station stops. The 4CIG units received a facelift in the late 1980s, and continued in mainline passenger service into the 21st Century! The Gresley-designed Flying Scotsman has become an icon of British steam, hauling the first non-stop Flying Scotsman train service from London to Edinburgh in 1928 and breaking records ever since. Entering service almost 90 years ago and still running today, the Flying Scotsman has been a renowned record breaker in its lifetime, including being the first steam locomotive to officially exceed 100mph. Earlier this year, the custodians of the Flying Scotsman, the National Railway Museum, painted the famous locomotive in LNER black for its unveiling to the public following lengthy restoration, the same livery as the locomotive carried in 1946. It was intended to only wear the black livery until the end of its speed and main line trials before being repainted back into the more well-known LNER Apple Green. The LNER Black Flying Scotsman for Train Simulator carries the running numbers 103 and 502, a different running number for each side of the cab, as depicted by the NRM and recreated in Train Simulator. Scenarios for the London-Brighton route and BR Mk1 maroon coaches are also included. Ключевые особенности • Class A3 'Flying Scotsman' in LNER Black livery • Scenarios for the London-Brighton route • BR Mk1 maroon coaches • Quick Drive compatible Сценарии Three scenarios for the London-Brighton route: • The Black Flying Scotsman • Black Ice • Seaside Tour- Подробное описаниеРазработчик/издатель: Dovetail Games | Язык дополнения: английский | Год выпуска: 18 января 2013 | Совместимость: Train Simulator (только пиратка)-Если вам понравилось это дополнение, вы можете приобрести его в цифровом магазине Steam.- The Class 422 '4BIG' was a slam door classic across the south coast routes of England and isnow available for Train Simulator. The 4BIG was similar to the standard 4CIG EMU but contained a buffet car in place of an intermediate trailer, thereby consisting of two driving trailers, a non-driving motor coach and a buffet car. The first 4BIG was delivered into service in late 1965 from BR York Works, and up until 1972 were regular units on south coast passenger services. The fleet of 4BIGs lasted more than 40 years in service, initially on Brighton line services, later on the Waterloo to Portsmouth route and eventually across the Southern network. Following privatisation of the UK railway network, 4 BIGs were operated by Connex South Central up until 1997 when some were transferred to South West Trains. The redundant units were refurbished and re-allocated to other EMU classes. Despite being replaced by more modern EMUs, such was their popularity that many 4BIGs have been preserved on heritage railways around the UK. The Class 422 '4BIG' for Train Simulator is available in BR blue/grey livery and features full cab interior and lighting, detailed buffet and intermediate passenger coaches, updated passenger view and comes as Quick Drive compatible, giving you the freedom to drive the 4BIG on any Quick Drive enabled route for Train Simulator, such as those available through Steam. Also included are scenarios specifically for the London to Brighton route. Owners of the 4CIG can also combine a 4CIG with a 4BIG to create an 8DIG! In 1992, four 8DIG units, numbered 2001-2004, were formed by semi-permanently coupling a 4CIG unit and a 4BIG unit. The units were dedicated to London Victoria-Brighton express services, which were operated as the Capital Coast Express. Please note, there are no scenarios or consists included to create an 8DIG, the unit can only be made by creating a scenario. Replacing the popular slam door trains on south coast routes, the Class 377 is a common sight on routes out of London, primarily on mid and long distance services, and can run on third rail and overhead line power. The first Class 377 units entered service in 2002 and currently total more than 200. They are also considered to be one of the most advanced commuter EMUs, with a sophisticated train management system, CCTV and air conditioning as standard across the fleet. The Class 377 for Train Simulator is available in First Capital Connect livery, with features including working cruise control and dynamic in-cab display screens. Also included are three scenarios for the London to Brighton line. During a visit to Germany in 1933, Sir Nigel Gresley was taken by the high-speed streamlined 'Flying Hamburger' diesel train, a concept the London & North Eastern Railway had considered for its East Coast Main Line route. However, Gresley believed that steam power could do an equally impressive job and tested the theory with Class A3 'Papyrus'. Gresley's tests were such a success that LNER granted permission to design more streamlined locomotives. The Class A4s were designed for prestigious high-speed passenger services, running from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh, Scotland via York and Newcastle. Both internal and external streamlining improved coal and water usage, and a Kylchap double chimney was proven to improve efficiency, making the Class A4s a much admired model with their distinctive flowing aerodynamic profile. A total of 35 'Streaks' were produced at LNER's Doncaster Works between 1935 and 1938 and were capable of a 90mph (140km/h) top speed in regular service. However, the Class A4s were record breakers from the outset - Silver Fox attained 113mph (182km/h) in August 1936, making it the highest recorded speed of a regular passenger train at the time. The most famous of days for the Class A4s was on 3rd July 1938. Pulling six coaches and a dynamometer car, Mallard reached 126mph (202.8km/h) at Stoke Bank, breaking the world speed record for steam locomotives of 124.5mph (200.4km/h) previously held by a German DBG Class 05. The record still stands today, making 2013 the 75th anniversary of this record breaking occasion. To mark the occasion, the UK's National Railway Museum (NRM) is bringing all six surviving Class A4s together in one location. With the 'Streaks' fully withdrawn from mainline service by 1966, six were preserved – Mallard, Sir Nigel Gresley, Bittern, Union of South Africa, Dominion of Canada and Dwight D Eisenhower. The latter two locomotives were moved to North America shortly after being withdrawn from service with the other four locomotives maintained on preserved railways or in museums. The NRM's Great Gathering assembled all six remaining Class A4s reunited and on display to the general public for a limited time, and the Class A4 Pacifics for Train Simulator recreates this unique gathering and the locomotives in the liveries they will be displayed in. They feature with and without their famous aerodynamic side fairings and a special Speed Test scenario between two fixed points on the London to Brighton route, giving you the opportunity to attempt Mallard's record breaking speed. Typical of EMUs built in the 1980s, the Class 319 was built by BREL York between 1987 and 1990 for north-south cross-London services from Bedford to Brighton, entering revenue- generating service in 1988. The four-car units were able to run on both overhead electrification – on lines north of Farringdon - and third rail pick-up, for lines south of Farringdon. Two sub-classes were originally built and over the years, the 86 trainsets have been refurbished, creating five sub-classes in total, of which four still exist. Following privatisation of British Rail, the fleet was divided between two operators, Thameslink and Connex South Central; in 2006, First Capital Connect took over the Thameslink franchise and now operates Class 319 units on Bedford to Brighton services. The Class 319 EMU for Train Simulator is available in First Capital Connect livery and includes a full four-car unit, comprising DTSO, MSO and TSO vehicles. Features of the model include passenger view, fully detailed cab interior, cab lighting, working cab fan, opening cab windows, two-tone horn, cab window blind, day/night running light selection, window reflections in passenger compartments, and driver vigilance device (which can be enabled and disabled). (DTS). The Class 73 was designed to operate on both 650/750V DC third rail and diesel power, following British Railways' 1955 modernisation plan and an increase in electrification in the Southern Region. The Class 73 was built in two stages - the first six locomotives were built by BR in 1962 at Eastleigh Works (initially classified as Class 72) with the remaining 42 in the Class built by English Electric at their Vulcan Foundry between 1965 and 1967. Initially designed for mixed traffic use, the Class 73 had limited power output of 600hp when operating under diesel traction mode; when operating on third rail, the power output was considerably higher at 1,600hp, meaning the Class spent most of its time in Southern England. Arguably one of the most famous uses was hauling the Gatwick Express services between London Victoria and Gatwick from the mid-1980s until 2005, although many Class 73s could be seen hauling other passenger, freight, parcels and boat trains, and also as 'Thunderbird' rescue locomotives. To date, all but 10 of the Class remain, some in mainline service with others preserved, and current owners include GB Railfreight, Network Rail, South West Trains and Eurostar. The Class 488 started their lives as standard BR Mk2f passenger coaches. However, in the mid-1980s, BR's search for new Gatwick Express stock to replace the ageing Class 423 '4- VEP' saw a number of Mk2f coaches being converted into sets for the service. Two sub-sets of Class 488 were produced, the 488/2 was rebuilt as two-car units for first class accommodation and the 488/3 was a set of three coaches for standard class only, both sub-classes with the addition of air conditioning and Southern Region multiple unit control jumpers. Following privatisation, the Class 488s were only used on Gatwick Express services, sandwiched between a Class 73 and Class 489. From 2000, Class 488 services were gradually replaced by new Class 460 'Juniper' EMUs, although some units still remain in service with operators such as Network Rail, Northern Ireland Railways and the Ministry of Defence. As BR continued its upgrade to Gatwick Express services, a number of DMBSO coaches from Class 414 2HAP EMUs were converted into DMLV coaches specifically for airport trains. Coupled with Class 488 and Class 73 stock, the Class 489 was a driving motor coach with capacity to transport luggage, with a top speed of 90mph (145 km/h). As with the Class 488, withdrawals of the Class 489 began in the early 2000s, with all completely removed from Gatwick Express services by 2005. Half of the Class survived into preservation, with three units still being used by Network Rail for de-icing maintenance trains. The BR Class 73 for Train Simulator is available in InterCity 'Gatwick Express' livery and includes Class 488/2 Mk2e TFO, Mk2e TFOH, Class 488/3 Mk2e TSO and Mk2e TSOH passenger coaches in InterCity 'Gatwick Express' livery, plus Class 489 GLV driveable cab car in InterCity 'Gatwick Express' livery, as operating on the London-Brighton route in the early 2000s. The Class 73 features a dual power-control unit to allow the locomotive to run under diesel and third rail power, Driver Safety Device (DSD), Driver Reminder Appliance (DRA), Electro-Pneumatic brake, plus accurate and authentic sounds recorded from 73210, access kindly provided by the Mid-Norfolk Railway. Represented in absolute stunning detail, with authentic and characteristic sounds, expertly crafted, capturing the unmistakable character of these units. In the late 1950s, British Railways was undergoing radical changes, the 1955 Modernisation Plan would see the total phasing out of steam-powered operations. Electrified lines, the likes of which were common in the Southern Region, were not in need of new traction as the electrical multiple units of the time were still capable enough. There were however some lines which were not electrified, and it wouldn't be long until new equipment was required. Enter the Diesel-Electric Multiple Units, similar in respects to an EMU, however the electricity is generated by an on-board diesel engine instead of being collected from a third rail. The first of these DEMUs were introduced on the Southern Region in 1957, and classification was based on number of coaches and where they were due to operate. Therefore, the 2-car units built to serve the unelectrifed lines in Hampshire were known as the '2H'. Initially, a total of 18 2H DEMUs were built at BR's Eastleigh Works. The unit was derived from the proven Mk1 coach design, and shared features both inside and out. Each 2H unit was powered by a single diesel engine, found behind the driver's cab of the MBSO (Motor Brake Second Saloon), with the other coach being a Driving Trailer Composite (DTC). After entering service, with effectively only 1 and a half coaches' worth of capacity, the 2H fleet was quickly being crowded with a growing number of passengers. An intermediate trailer was soon inserted into the units, reclassifying them as '3H'. Despite the fleet lengthening, a second batch of units, of 2H designation, were ordered for Marshlink services between Hastings and Ashford. As time ticked by, various small branches were either closed or electrified, leaving the DEMUs – which were reclassified under TOPS as the BR Class 205 – with fewer routes to operate on. Fleets would spread out and the 205s would be seen operating the Uckfield to London services alongside their sister Class 207 units. Widespread use lead to widespread nicknaming, and these units became known as the 'Thumpers', for their distinctive sound when under power. The Class 205 lived on until 2004, by which point Southern had chosen the Turbostar platform to replace them. Thankfully, the remaining 205s were liberally spared from scrap, with no less than 12 units still stand on British rails to this day. Thump along the rails in exacting, authentic and stunning detail, with Armstrong Powerhouse's BR Class 205 DEMU, in classic Network Southeast toothpaste! A new millennium meant a whole new generation of services, and National Express were keen to procure a fleet of modern EMUs to replace the Class 73, Class 488 & Class 489 stock of their Gatwick Express services. Alstom's Juniper family had already been ordered in the UK and was under construction as the Class 334, for SPT/ScotRail, and the Class 458 for South West Trains. The Juniper line was also chosen for the new Gatwick Express stock, 64 carriages forming 8 8-car EMUs that were dedicated to non-stop express services packed with passengers and luggage. The new trains were designated the Class 460, and were built at Washwood Heath in Birmingham between 1999 and 2001. The first Class 460 was delivered in 2000, and unlike many other EMUs of the day, featured a stylish, streamlined nose which improved efficiency at the Class 460s' top speed of 100 mph. It was this sloping cab end that earned the class its nickname 'Darth Vader', owing to the similarity between the nose and the famed sci-fi villains' helmet. The 8-car trains were formed of a Driving Motor Luggage First Open, Trailer Open First Lavatory, Trailer Composite Open, Motor Standard Open, Motor Standard Open, Trailer Standard Open, Motor Standard Open, and Driving Motor Standard Open. THE 'DMFLO' was arranged at the London-end of every consist, as luggage was unloaded off the Gatwick Express and onto airplanes departing from the London-end of Gatwick Airport station. Under National Express, the Class 460 fleet operated exclusively, and regularly, on non-stop services to Gatwick Airport and back. When the Gatwick Express franchise was absorbed into the South-Central franchise however, and Southern took over both 'GatEx' services and gained the Class 460 fleet, the branding remained but the 460s would also operate limited stop expresses between London and Brighton. It would be the extension of services to Brighton that sparked the 'end' of the Class 460. Popularity meant that more stock was required, and Southern opted to lease the fleet of Class 442 'Wessex' EMUs, previously withdrawn by South West Trains, for such services. After refurbishment, the Class 442s grew more favourable over the newer Class 460s, seating a handful more passengers and keeping to the timetable. The Class 442s would entirely replace the Class 460s by 2013. Being part of the Juniper family, the Class 460 EMUs bared much technical resemblance to South West Trains Class 458 EMUs, and so to increase capacity on Reading and Windsor services, the Class 460s were split up, refurbished, and added to the 30 4-car Class 458s to form 36 5-car Class 458/5s. The distinct nose of the Class 460 was lost in favour of Class 450 compatibility, and their express-destined traction motors were downgraded to a much more suburban 75 mph. Technically gone, yet still with us, the Class 460 was something of an icon for modern Southern Region travel.
