to its US origins and safety features, and now this superbly-detailed loco comes to Train
Simulator in correct Freightliner livery!
Developed jointly by Freightliner Ltd and General Electric, the Class 70 was built specifically
as a heavy freight locomotive for Freightliner operations in the UK. Built by General Electric
in Erie, Pennsylvania, it has a 3,690-horsepower diesel engine, though is still able to meet
European Union regulations for diesel engine emissions. However, the Class 70's most
distinctive feature must be its exterior cab design which is immediately recognizable. This is
a result of built-in crash protection to protect train crews in the event of a collision, and in
fact the entire cab was designed with considerable input from freight train drivers.
With a highly realistic driver's cab including working instrument and information displays,
and sounds recorded from the real thing, the Class 70 is as up-to-date as they come and a
great addition to your fleet.

The Class 86 is a powerful locomotive from the early days of electric main line traction in
Britain. Originally known as AL6 (the 6th design of AC locomotives) under the earlier BR
classification, the Class 86 was built to operate on the then newly-electrified West Coast
Main Line, and formed part of the effort replace steam locomotives by 1968. Throughout the
1970s the Class 86 was used on express passenger services as well as freight but with the
demand for electric locomotives increasing, by the 1980's the need for a standard fleet saw
all the Class 86's fitted with improved suspension giving them greater operational flexibility.
The Class 86 for Train Simulator comes with two Freightliner liveries as well as RailFreight
Grey, Rail Express Services and BR Blue liveries, together with rolling stock. The Class 86 also
features an accurate recreation of the 'tap changer' power control found in the real
locomotive: this realistic feature offers a lifelike driving experience but can be challenging
for less experienced Train Simulator drivers – please refer to the manual for full driving
instructions.

Train Simulator.
Looking like a freight version of the familiar 'Networker' classes, the Class 325 is a purpose-
built electric mail train capable of running on 25,000-volt AC overhead lines or 750-volt DC
third-rail lines, depending on where it is operating. It is based on the Class 319 dual-voltage
EMU and was introduced in 1995 to carry parcels on electrified lines, and intended to replace
the older generation of locomotive-hauled mail trains. Visually, the most striking feature is
the presence of roller-shutter doors instead of sliding passenger doors, and of course the
lack of windows. Commonly seen operating along the West Coast Mainline, East Coast
Mainline and Edinburgh-Glasgow line, the Class 325 can carry up to 12 tons of mail in each
car at speeds up to 100mph. The use of mail trains has been subject to regular policy
changes in the last few years, but Class 325s still run several times a day in either 4, 8 or 12-

British railway network, and you can now experience this DMU for Train Simulator, upgraded
from a previous Class 101 pack and in the striking Strathclyde Passenger Transport (SPT)
livery.
Built by Metro-Cammell Works in Birmingham from 1956, the Class 101 was made up from a
number of sub-classes, making them the most numerous and possibly most successful and
well known of first generation DMUs. Sets were supplied in two, three and four car sets,
depending on the service they were intended for, and passenger accommodation was
provided in first and standard class configuration.
With more than 500 units built, the Class 101 could be seen on routes across the country
and saw service many years into the privatisation of Britain's railways. The final five units
survived 47 years of service, finally being withdrawn on 24 December 2003, but thanks to
their longevity many units have been preserved on the country's heritage railways.
Re-skinned and upgraded from an earlier Class 101 pack, the Class 101 for Train Simulator is
available in Strathclyde Passenger Transport (SPT) black and orange livery, the first such time
the distinctive livery has appeared on any Train Simulator model. Features include manual
gear change control, fully detailed cab and control panel, in-cab lighting and an upgrade to
TSX standard features. Also included are a number of exciting scenarios for the West Coast

When British Rail's freight operations were privatised in 1996, EWS brought most of BR's
freight operations, including many locomotives that were unreliable or at the end of their
useful life. EWS approached General Motors to seek replacements for the ageing fleet, which
saw the Class 66 enter service in 1998. The model was a replacement for the Class 59, from
which it used the same body shell but was updated with new internal fittings, control
systems, 3,000hp engines and power units. More than 440 models were built, and seeing
their success as part of the EWS fleet, many heavy freight companies ordered their own
models, including Freightliner, Direct Rail Services and EWS.
The EWS Class 66 V2.0 for Train Simulator is a re-worked model of a previous version, with
an updated and improved interior and re-modelled exterior. Available in EWS livery, the
model features accurate brake control and centre-sprung brake lever, accurate engine and
horn sounds, JGA aggregate hopper wagons and OTA timber wagons.

following electrification of the line north of Crewe, and now you can take control of British
Rail's flagship electric model in Train Simulator.
Based on its predecessor, the Class 86, 36 models of the Class 87 were built at BREL Crewe
Works between 1973 and 1975. Similar in appearance to the Class 86, there were some
external and a number of internal differences between the two locomotives – the Class 87
was fitted with new bogies and multiple working equipment, two cab windows instead of
three, headcode boxes were removed and the engine improved to give 5,000hp to improve
performance on the hilly West Coast route.
With a top speed of 110mph (180km/h), the Class 87 was used mainly on express passenger
services for British Rail, although there were occasional times when they were put into
service on freight trains and even the Royal Train. In the late 1970s, BR named the entire
fleet of Class 87s, many receiving names previously carried by 'Britannia' Class steam
locomotives or town, cities and counties along the West Coast.
During the 1980s, all Class 87/0s were transferred from British Rail to InterCity whilst 87101
(which carried a different specification to the rest of the Class) was transferred to Railfreight
Distribution. Post-privatisation, many Class 87s passed to Virgin Trains where they continued
to operate West Coast Main Line express services, whilst others were transferred to Cotswold
Rail, Direct Rail Services and First GBRf.
Following the fleet's withdrawal in the late 2000s, 27 locomotives were sold to the Bulgarian
Railway Company and converted to run on the national network. However, due to a
downturn in railway traffic around the country, only 14 were eventually exported. Three Class
87s have also been preserved, two on static display at the National Railway Museum, York
and the Railway Heritage Centre, Crewe, with the other used on the occasional charter train
by the AC Locomotive Group.
The Class 87 for Train Simulator is available in InterCity Executive silver and grey livery
and features nameplates, BR Mk3 passenger coaches in InterCity Executive livery with passenger
view, working tap changer power control with functioning power gauges, two-tone horn and
cab lighting.

privatised livery of English, Welsh & Scottish Railway (EWS) livery.
The Class was built by a consortium of Brush Traction and ABB Traction between 1993 and
1996 with the intention of running services through the Channel Tunnel between Britain and
France. All locomotives were fitted with dual voltage operation to allow operation on either
third rail 750v DC or overhead 25kV AC power, with most electrical systems duplicated to
reduce the possibility of locomotive failure in the Channel Tunnel.
In total, 46 locomotives were built in the Class and shared a body shell with the Class 60,
albeit with a modified front end. The locomotive was fitted with both rheostatic and
regenerative braking, in addition to standard Westinghouse air brake equipment, and an
electrical train bus was fitted to enable two locomotives to work in multiple formation, either
double-heading or in push-pull formation with a Driving Van Trailer (DVT).
Post privatisation, the fleet was split between EWS, European Passenger Services, Eurostar
(UK) and SNCF; the six locomotives retained by Eurostar were initially earmarked to head
sleeper services through the Channel Tunnel, but this project was quickly abandoned.
The BR Class 92 for Train Simulator is available in former BR Railfreight grey livery with EWS
overlay stickers to replicate the locomotive as it looked under EWS ownership. The
locomotive features functioning dual voltage operation, vacuum circuit breaker to isolate
power supply, PBL brake, variable wiper speed, pantograph up/down control, power mode
selector and AWS. Also included are loaded and unloaded Megafret container wagons.

BR Sectors livery.
Built for British Rail between 1976 and 1984, the first batch of 30 locomotives were built by
Electroputere in Romania as a replacement to ageing fleets of first generation locomotives
such as the Class 37 and Class 47. A further 105 locomotives were subsequently built by
BREL at Doncaster and Crewe Works, bringing the total fleet of Class 56s to enter service to
135.
Its bodyshell design was based on the Class 47 and the Class were the first BR diesel type to
be built with air train brakes only. Its 3,250 horsepower output enabled a top speed of
80mph (129 km/h), and the 'Grids' plied its trade across the British railway network at the
head of heavy freight services.
Following privatisation of the rail network in 1996, many models passed to private owners.
However, maintenance needs were high by modern standards, and notwithstanding
significant investment by private operators, the class could not compete with more modern
Class 66 in terms of availability or maintenance costs.
Most locomotives were withdrawn by EWS on 31 March 2004, although some were
reinstated for use on construction trains connected with the LGV East in France; others were
put into service for private operators such as Fastline and Colas Rail, and remain in service
today.
The BR Sectors Class 56 for Train Simulator is a former Iron Horse House model, which has
been updated to Train Simulator standard, including new scenarios and improved exterior
modelling. Features include cab and instrument lighting, two-tone horn, driver vigilance
device, engine shut down/start up procedure and slow speed control.

Based on the well-used Mk1body shell design, 91 units were built by Pressed Steel at
Linwood in Paisley between 1959 and 1961, although they were not introduced until 1960
for the electrification of the North Clyde and Cathcart Circles lines in Strathclyde.
Initially, the EMUs – nicknamed the 'Blue Trains' - were classified as AM3 units before the
introduction of the TOPS system in the late 1960s, and operated local and suburban

in the 2000s.

operations aboard famed traction. Relive the early days of privatisation in this officially
licensed pack for Train Simulator!
The fleet of BR Class 47s operated by Virgin CrossCountry were already a popular locomotive
that helped usher in a new era of British Railway travel.
The Virgin Class 47 fleet was quite different in its ability to go for miles upon miles without
filling up. Long-distance routes have always required a lot of fuel, and in the steam days,
that meant big tenders for coal and water troughs placed between rails for an added quench.
Diesel locomotives alleviated this issue by having suitably sized tanks laden with diesel to
power the engines, and subsequently the electric traction motors. However, even the
longest expresses needed extra range, and so a fleet of passenger-hauling Class 47/4s
were retrofitted with extra tanks to extend their reach.
Used for InterCity Cross-Country services, the extended-range Class 47/4s were renumbered
to the 47/8 subclass for easy identification, albeit still officially 47/4s. It was these
locomotives which were inherited in operation by Virgin Trains, who won the CrossCountry
franchise. Before long, the 47s would soon be given a fresh coat of paint, sporting the now
defunct, classic Virgin Trains Black & Red livery.
Another form of traction which was utilised on the Cross-Country routes, by both InterCity
and later Virgin, was the iconic High Speed Train.
After being introduced on the Great Western and East Coast Main Lines with operational
success, being the first timetabled 125mph services in the country, the Class 43 'HST' fleet
also proved popular on long-distance routes, and dedicated sets worked across the length of
England and Scotland. These HST sets were also soon operated by Virgin CrossCountry, who
replaced the famed InterCity 'Swallow' and 'Executive' liveries with their own Black & Red
guise. The Virgin 125s would become known as 'The Red Arrows'.
The Class 47, and High Speed Train, would work for both the CrossCountry and West Coast
divisions of Virgin Trains throughout their lifetime in red, making them perfect traction for a
multitude of routes within Train Simulator.
